ONTARIO – Test
The Honourable Christine Elliott, M.P.P.
Minister of Health
I am a vaper and I am worried. More and more I am hearing about possible changes to vaping regulations. I am hearing about possible bans on flavoured vaping products and restrictions to nicotine strength. I am writing to you today to give you my perspective, as a consumer, of the impact these kinds of reactive regulatory proposals would have in real life. Let me begin with flavours. I know that as a smoker, flavours are an essential reason to make the switch to a vapour product. If all e-cigarettes tasted like cigarettes, I’d have no reason to switch. As for nicotine, in my experience, most smokers who move to e-cigarettes start a certain nicotine level and, after a period of time, they start to lower the strength of the nicotine they consume. Minister Elliott, there are thousands of vapers in Ontario who have turned to e-cigarettes as a way to stop smoking or cut back. I, for one, understand that there are no health guarantees when it comes to vaping, but I do know that there are severe health problems associated with smoking. I am going with the science that has found that vaping is safer. I hope that the Government of Ontario takes the reality of how flavours and nicotine are used by adult vapers into consideration if it contemplates any kind of limits to vaping products. Please do not ignore those of us who have made a responsible and informed choice.
